Don 2

Genre : Crime | Action | Thriller
Runtime : 145 Min
Director : Farhan Akhtar

Plot : After becoming the king of Asian underworld, this time Don has his eyes set on the European undrworld.

Review : I seriously had a lot of expectations from this flick for three reasons – SRK, Farhan Akhtar and Don. The previews were very promising as well so I was very eager to watch it. Finally got a chance to watch it in 3D today.

I don’t know where to start. The movie stands firm on the expectations and sets a new bar for the upcoming action flicks of Bollywood. It’s slick and stylish as I had thought. Farhan has done a great job in extending the empire of Don through this sequel. He is always good at direction, that’s what I feel. But who pumped up the whole movie? It’s SRK simply. He is looking stunning in his Don avatar and even better than the first. There are no comparisons left now as this one is totally different from the former. The new Don is darker, more evil and wicked. He has delivered a fantabulous performance. Coming to the acts of others, umm well I guess SRK steals the show. I could not notice anyone else. Lara is looking hot though and Priyanka is fine in her place. Boman Irani is as usual good. There is a cameo in the movie which I would not like to disclose.

The action sequences give you an adrenaline rush. The cinematography is great and the best part is the shooting in Berlin. I can easily call it the best action movie of Bollywood. It leaves behind the most appreciated action movies including Dhoom series, Race, Krrish etc. It is an intelligent thriller which will keep you engaged always. The dialogues are fabulous. There are few hints of humor as well which relieves at proper moments. The fx of the movie is a treat topping.

The best part is subplots and continuity of surprises. It will continue to surprise you with the well written script. Talking about 3D, the effects are nice. You really can’t expect a lot from stereo 3D movies but its way better than even Hollywood movies like Harry Potter which provided nothing. Music is nice and score is good as well. There is no moment of boredom despite of a big runtime. The movie is surprisingly a top notch action-thriller delivered by Bollywood.

Final Verdict : Not a SRK fan? You will still love this movie believe me. SRK fan? What are you waiting for? Watch out for the surprises. I would like to give a +1 just for SRK’s performance. And yeah one important thing, it’s disgusting if you praise movies like MI:4 and you think that Don 2 was poor (Pointing at all the –ve reviewers)

Horrible Bosses

Genre : Comedy | Crime
Runtime : 98 Min
Director : Seth Gordan
Plot : Three friends frustrated with their bosses conspire to murder them and get relief

Review : So I end up watching a comedy this time. Horrible Bosses! Of course I had a lot in mind and there were so many possibilities that could be played around with the concept with respect to the title. As soon as the movie started, I guessed it’s gonna be just another sex comedy but it turned out to untrue soon. You will definitely get a rough idea what you are about to watch with the description of bosses.

The concept on a rough note might not be brand new but the treatment is just amazing. I could not stop laughing at the start. It was terrific really. The opening scene with Kevin Spacey and Jason Bateman itself is too good. Next evil boss is stunning and super hot Jennifer Aniston who is the boss of Charlie Day. Trust me guys I could not recognize her in her sexy avatar. Third one is the best opening scene including Jason Sudeikis and Colin Farrell. Talking about acts, all six have done great job and Colin Farrell is just hilarious. Coming to the script, well it’s definitely very good. I just have one complaint that the movie becomes bit boring in between. It’s like divided in three parts. You are definitely gonna laugh out loud in the former part and the latter part. The mid one is a li’l slow and boring.

The surprise cast is Jamie Foxx as MF Jones. You will learn about MF in the movie only as I don’t wanna spoil it here. The whole movie is filled with liners and punches that you might not have heard before. It will make you laugh definitely. One more thing is that it has a dark side too as it’s a crime comedy. The balance is perfect to bend it on the lighter comedy part. I would definitely recommend it to all.

Final Verdict : Don’t miss the fun as it is one of the best comedy movie to release this year. I loved it and am sure you will love it as well.

Attack the Block

Genre : Horror | Comedy | Sci-Fi
Runtime : 88 Min
Director : Joe Cornish

Plot : A block is attacked by some alien creatures. The teens form a gang to defend their block from the invasion.

Review : Comedy with Horror. Like I said earlier, not my favorite genre. But for the positive reviews, I had to watch it once. And guess what, thumbs up for it. Alien Invasion seems too common these days, but how you present it is what that counts.

The first and the best thing about the movie are the acts. They looked like real gangstas with their attitude or say their accent as well. It felt that everything is happening for real and live in front of my eyes. Next is the comic timing which is really good and blends well, relieving us in between the action packed sequences. I was not really expecting that at all. I would not like to talk about the script or theme. All of us can guess that there will be nothing new to it and that’s where the movie lacks majorly. But on the entertainment level, it is pretty good I must mention.

The aliens are different and scary. There is an ample amount of splatters involved. Now I love that and it’s a plus for the movie. The background score keeps it pumping and the run of the movie is pacy as well. I would say they should mention action as well in the genre as it’s an action packed horror for me. It would really have done wonders with a better script. Also if I find it good, the people who like comedy/horror genre will love it.

Final Verdict : Overall the movie is really very entertaining and not at all bad. It’s not made to scare you but will surely thrill you. Definitely watch it once. I feel it’s the coolest horror movie I have seen.

Mission : Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Genre : Action | Adventure | Thriller
Runtime : 133 Min
Director : Brad Bird

Plot : The IMF mission goes bad and it’s implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin. Hence IMF is shut down officially. Ethan Hunt and his new team gear up to clear their name.

Review : Ok, the first one was very good, I hate the second installment but I liked the third one. But let me clear that am not a fan of Mission Impossible neither Tom Cruise. Did not have many expectations from it as some impossible things are always scripted in the movie way beyond reality and I just hate the mask thing put on again and again and repeating annoyingly. This one has a different start and you would wonder why? Watch for explanations as I don’t wanna write spoilers. Tom Cruise is looking stunning. The story progresses and you will notice that the mission they are on this time is pretty dangerous. Ethan Hunt is now with a new team of his own for the same.

The first half, thumbs up to Simon Pegg who is the highlight of all the comic punches which are hilarious. Some pretty good action sequences which will surely give you an adrenaline rush. Well I guess they are meant to as that is the ISP of the movie. And seriously I was pretty much enjoying the first half and never felt bored at all. Instead was laughing all the way which is really different for MI series. A good change by Brad Bird. The second half was good as well but is a little slow. The movie runs for almost 133 minutes but all the minutes were interesting and the element of boredom was missing. The action sequences are unrealistic logically but are shot so well, thanks to the cinematography.Cast wise all have performed well, but Pegg was really awesome. The role of Anil Kapoor sucked big time though. Overall direction – thumbs up. I really missed the original MI theme which was there but not much.

The movie is fun and thrilling to watch and it was really good to see Tom Cruise back in action. One more thing I forgot to mention is that there is less of the mask for this one which I just loved. And the tagline : No Plan. No Backup. No Choice. fits quite well which you will find out soon.

Final Verdict : Seriously guys, a must to watch in theatres. Don’t miss it. This one is the best after the first. Loved it.

Final Destination 5

Genre : Horror | Thriller
Runtime : 92 Min
Director : Steven Quale

Plot : A teenager prevents his colleagues from dying of a suspension bridge Collapse by a premonition but soon they learn that there is no way to cheat death.

Review : So even though I thought they won’t be interested in making another sequel after the fourth one which was tagged ‘Death saved the best for the last’, we have another FD. Do you really think they must have got a great script this time? Well you are right, they have not. So as usual we won’t be talking about the script. Now what expectation did I have from this? I expected it to be much more bloody and much more thrilling. Guess what, it surprised me.

The start itself was really good with some really great visual effects. Hats off, it was realistic and a treat for fans. It is one of the best start. Now as usual the survivors are left and death is on a killing spree. What was different? I guess the direction is pretty much good than the previous ones. Why? Because I was glued to my seat and it was really tense this time. I felt it is a lot darker. The death scenes are really innovative and have that eerie feeling and creepiness. The cast seemed perfect this time. Without a skin show they are able to succeed.

The best thing was that every death scene ends up into something that you were not at all thinking. This builds up a feeling of suspense in between. And to much extent it is helpful in building interest. The fact that it came out in 3d is stunning as I could really feel what it would have felt to watch it in 3D while watching in 2D only. The effects were simply great. I feel that it succeeds where its predecessors failed. The missing thing was a new concept. I mean now we know that they are gonna die in the pattern. Anyhow it stands out to be the best installment of the series. I really wish it was the first part, I would have rated it more.

Final Verdict : Even if you don’t like the series much, you should go for it as it is the best part. The sequel could not have been better. Watch out for the climax and get shocked.

The Final Destination

Genre : Horror | Thriller
Runtime : 82 Min
Director : David R. Ellis

Plot : A guy has a premonition of a car crash and the death of everyone and thus saves all of his friends. Death won’t leave them alone but.

Review : David returning to direct the fourth installment for me meant better death scenes. I don’t really expect anything from the franchise except that. Another thing is that it came out in 3d but I saw in 2D obviously. Still I can make out easily what portions were incorporated for the 3D effect and they must have looked good on the silver screen. It is again a standalone sequel.

Now, what’s new in this one? The answer is simple ie nothing. The plot remains the same and even no much emphasis is laid on death. Just new methods are devised to please on 3d viewing. The start is just one of the best in the series. It was really thrilling. The effects are really good. One good thing about it is that it kept me glued to my seat and there were moments of deja-vu. I was constantly thinking what’s gonna happen next and the deaths were gruesome than my expectations. Like I said earlier, you don’t really expect a great matter from the series and thus it’s successful in what it is meant for. Watch for the climax, it’s really good I feel and a bit of twist this time towards the end.

Final Verdict : Not great but a thrilling experience.

Final Destination 3

Genre : Horror | Thriller
Runtime : 93 Min
Director : James Wong

Plot : The plot stays the same. A student has a premonition of a fatal accident in a rollercoaster ride and saves his fellow friends. But death comes back at them.

Review : James Wong Directing it again and things are a little messed up in this installment. First of all it’s out of the sync. It’s a standalone sequel to the series. Honestly I never expected very much as soon as I came to know that it’s completely aside of the prequels. I knew the same will be repeated with some violent death, some great splatters and all that gore stuff. And ya I was right in guessing.

The movie kinda repeats everything you have already seen but in a different and innovative manner regarding the deaths. That is the highlight and has always been. What? Do you expect more? I would advise you to skip it then. It is basically made for the fans of series. It will not provide too much disappointment to them. I was not expecting much and actually it did not offer much. But still like it.

Final Verdict : Are you a fan? You must watch it then, otherwise can be skipped.

Final Destination 2

Genre : Horror | Thriller
Runtime : 90 Min
Director : David R. Ellis

Plot : Kimberly has a vision of a highway pileup and she saves people from dying. But death won’t spare them so easily.

Review : The best part you will find out is that this is really a sequel as things are connected somehow. The better part is that it seriously is a good sequel. What do you expect from the movie after watching the first installment? Creepy score? Painful deaths? Accidents? Splatters? Well guess what, you are in for the shit you’ve been thinking.

David R. Ellis delivers a nicely paced version of Final Destination, the thing that was missing in the first. Good amount of scary deaths to please the slasher fans as well. Script wise good again and you surely wanna leave out your sensible one if you want to enjoy it. Thrilling to the optimum amount I believe this is actually slightly better than the first one but again the first one had a new concept. You will not get bored in it and definitely gonna enjoy if you like this genre.

Final Verdict : If you liked the first, you don’t need my advice. If you haven’t then what are you waiting for?

Final Destination

Genre : Horror | Thriller
Runtime : 98 Min
Director : James Wong

Plot : A teenager has a vision that the plane they are boarding will crash and he with his friends will die. They aboard the plane to find out that the vision was true. But death won’t leave them so easily.

Review : Seriously hats off for the amazing concept fore-mostly. I did not have that many expectations from it when I watched it. Refreshingly new idea is brought to the horror genre and is commendable. Movie is moderately paced and you might get bored in between but it’s seriously a good package with thrilling moments mixed with some cool horror effects. Well not much acting skills are required in such flicks but I’ll remember Ali Larter surely. She is definitely a candy.

The theme of the movie and the co-relation with the title is the main isp. Death is surely the final destination in real life. There are some good scenes involving deaths and they are definitely a treat for gore lovers. Thumbs up for screen play. The direction could have been better and it would have been more effective if it was a little pacier. If you watch it patiently you might get the creepiness of the script and the whole concept of death and how it is felt is really nicely depicted. I really liked it but would have loved to see more.

Final Verdict : It is not a masterpiece but it is a must for all. Do watch it once.

Fright Night

Genre : Horror | Comedy
Runtime : 106 Min
Director : Craig Gillespie

Plot : A teenager is foretold by his friend that his new neighbor is a vampire but he doesn’t listen to him unaware of what truth is waiting for him.

Review : I have heard enough about the cult classic Fright Night. Over the sites I have read that it scared the hell out of them. With those expectations only I was very enthusiastic about watching it. I don’t know how it was at that time but this remake is not enough to scare me.

Though I never said that the movie was bad. The start of the movie is pretty well and I quite liked the background score which was also carried all over the movie. It really gave that eerie feeling. Colin Farrell has done a good job and is suited well for the vampire character. Don’t worry it’s not a spoiler. I don’t know who this girl is but Imogen Poots is really very cute and I could not get my eyes off. The storyline, I can’t really talk about as it’s a remake but is nice and but lack the element of surprise. You always know what’s gonna happen next.

Direction wise, it’s fine. Few blood splatters but do not feel yuck. One thing I liked that the movie is clean and they have not included any adult scenes which were also not necessary. Comic timing was good and very light. The key feature is undoubtedly Farrell who is scary in his real vampire avatar. The movie is a good one time watch and is enjoyable.

Final Verdict : It’s not great but is good. Definitely watch it once you won’t regret. A must for Colin Farrell fans.

Dead Silence

Genre : Horror | Mystery | Thriller
Runtime : 89 Min
Director : James Wan

Plot : Jamie's wife recieves a package which contains a weird doll named Billy which she finds cute. She is murdered afterwards and Jamie believes that the doll has some connection to the murder. In search of answers he goes to the town of Raven's Fair and is faced by the unexpected.

Review : It was really a highly anticipated movie for me for two reasons. First of all it came out of the bag of James Wan and Secondly the trailer was really creepy. For those who don't know James Wan, he's the man behind Saw. Moving on to the review, the movie started off really well with the doll stuff. Look at the poster and tell me the doll is not scary! The plot of the movie is refreshing for what you get these days (referring to the slasher horror). The storyline and the concept is really good and new. Even in the very start you will find that you are in for some spooky and creepy experience and you are not wrong coz this is what the movie delievers.

Have you ever been scared of dolls? I guess yes and if not, this will be the beginning. The best thing of movie is that its gonna scare you and not disgust you which means that your in for some screamfest and not gore. Now lets talk about the direction of the movie which is next to very good. Wan has made it solely to frighten you. The story may stretch a bit but on whole it finally pulls out great. You are in for some spine chilling sudden scenes so be ready. Another thing which I liked about the movie is the background score. It is one of the creepiest score I have listened in a movie. It blends so well with the mood and is like a cherry on the top of horror cone. Now comes the act and everyone has done a pretty fine job and all of the cast stays connected. The screenplay is nice and could have been better thats what I think. Cinematography is pretty nice. A gothic tone can be seen in the town and it makes it really scary.

The Key feature of the movie is the mystery which I bet you can never guess at any cost. Surely it will shock you like it did to me.

Final Verdict : The movie is really scary and I loved it. I can never forget the face of Mary Shaw and the Doll Billy and the rhyme included in the movie and the theme music. Go get scared.
